Disaster Preparedness and Response Subcommittee

“A disaster affects the entire fabric of community that existed prior to the event and can cause traumatic stress among the whole community. Disaster recovery is in large part the rebuilding of community, the re-tying of the thousands of strands of relationship in the fabric of our being together that have been severed by the disaster.” — Rev. John A. Robinson, Former Associate for Domestic Response, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

Our Purpose:

The reason why we exist is to assist the presbytery and the congregations to prepare for and respond to disasters within the bounds of Arkansas Presbytery. A disaster is an event that overwhelms a community’s capacity to respond.

Whenever a disaster occurs in your church or community, please contact one of the DPRS members for your region, as follows:

Pre-Disaster Checklist for Churches

This checklist is intended to help you help your congregation toward being as prepared as you can be. It is long and detailed, and you will want to rework it to make it your own. People and Property are your two top priorities. Consider both as you make your plan. Recognize that preparation should never cease and that after an event, you have the opportunity to continue preparing and mitigating before “the next big one.”
